SUPPORT FOR SCLERODERMA RESEARCH

SCLERODERMA QUEBEC

Criteria and standards for awarding grants

  1. OBJECTIVE

One of the main goals of Scleroderma Quebec is to foster and support basic and clinical research in scleroderma, with the view of leveraging its investment dollars.

Scleroderma Quebec, through co-financing, works closely with all its partners in order to contribute more effectively to the development of research projects aimed at improving the quality and life expectancy of scleroderma patients and, ultimately, defeating the disease.

  1. GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Applicants must have a place of business in Quebec.
  • Government funding partnership is mandatory for all applications over $10,000.
  • The project period must not exceed 5 years.

  1. PROPOSALS SUBMISSION

Eligible recipients may apply for funding grants from Scleroderma Quebec at any time through unsolicited project proposals.

Grant applications for scleroderma-related research projects must be submitted to Scleroderma Quebec’s Board of Directors. The Board oversees and reviews funding applications and makes a first selection, by taking into account the available budget for research.

  1. PROJECT GRANTS ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Government funding partnership is mandatory for all funding applications exceeding $10,000. Research projects that can be accepted, depending upon available budget, are those that have already received government funding, or whose financial support from Scleroderma Quebec may be used to leverage funding from the government. If so, Scleroderma Quebec’s financial contribution would be conditional on securing government funding.

However, in very rare instances, Scleroderma Quebec, at its sole discretion, could consider funding a research project if it may lead to a patentable discovery.

  1. ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

The following organizations are eligible for financial support from Scleroderma Quebec:

.  Universities and affiliated researchers;

.  Research groups or institutions affiliated with universities;

.  Health care institutions and teaching hospitals;

.  Research institutes.

Eligible applicants must have a place of business in Quebec and the research project must take place in Quebec. Potential recipients can also apply for Scleroderma Quebec’s grants to fund research carried out in collaboration with scientists from other countries.

Scleroderma Quebec does not provide funds directly to researchers, but rather to the organization or institution to which the nominated principal applicant is normally associated as an employee.

  1. FUNDING REQUEST

Each funding application must be completed in detail, according to the following specifications. In particular, it must:

  • include a detailed description of the research plan;
  • be accompanied by the mandatory documents, as listed below;
  • specify the methodology;
  • clearly state the objectives;
  • describe the expected results;
  • provide a detailed budget, including salaries and supplies;
  • All potential recipients must disclose all sources of funding for a proposed project prior to the start and at the completion of a project.
  • In the event that government funding should be awarded, applicant must include, as an annex, any documents certifying that funding has been approved. If government funding has not yet been secured at the time of application, indicate the total amount of financial support requested and what percentage it represents compared to the overall research project budget.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:

  • Resolution designating the person authorized to act on behalf of the applicant for the research project;
  • Résumé for each research project manager;
  • Funding application, completed and signed;
  • Letter confirming that government funding has been secured for the project.

Documents non obligatoires, mais utiles à l’évaluation :

  • Lettre du ou des partenaires apportant une aide financière, matérielle ou humaine au projet.
  1. FOLLOW-UP

A financial contribution agreement will be signed jointly by Scleroderma Quebec’s President and the nominated principal applicant’s official representative who will have received funding for his/her research project. In addition, a periodic research progress report, providing a comprehensive account of the progress made, as well as a final report must be submitted to Scleroderma Quebec, in accordance with the terms of the agreement.

The payment of the grant will be done in accordance with the terms set out in the contribution agreement. Annual or biannual payments are conditional upon submission of a research activity report.
